I have also lost a close friend, and platitudes don't help. Nothing does. I was a poor student of Sir Gary, and only knew him through the Letters he so generously posted. What I can safely say is that the impact of such a transparent life lingers for many generations. Many of us were inspired by him, and many deplored him (I count myself in the first group), but all of us knew he was there. John,
